Sun Oct 25 – Seven Gates [Four Gates this year with the Road Construction] of Hell Ride: Dare to go face-to-face with the Devil! On Sunday, Oct. 25, we’ll be doing our popular Seven Gates of Hell Ride out of Maryville, Illinois to celebrate Halloween. The routes are not marked, but a map/que will be provided (updated due to construction). No SAG support.
NOTE: With the road construction in the area we will have to by-pass three of the seven Gates = 4 Gates.
According to local legend, if you begin your trip through the Seven Gates of Hell — actually seven concrete railroad overpasses between Collinsville and Troy — exactly at midnight and in order, you’ll wind up in Hell!
Of course, we won’t be starting the ride at midnight, but that doesn’t mean you won’t avoid the Devil! We’ll meet in the western parking lot of Drost Park at 10:30 a.m. and take off at 10:45. To get to the western lot of Drost Park, take Illinois Route 159 north into Maryville, turn right on East Division Street (about 1.35 miles north of Interstate 55-70) and take it into Drost Park. We will be parking in the parking lot near the baseball/softball diamonds. (Map: http://g.co/maps/ynf5y)
The Seven Gates of Hell of Route is about 36 miles on flat to rolling roads and trails. If 36 miles isn’t enough, you can add more miles on the Madison County trail system.
If you fear the Devil, you also can create your own ride on the Madison County trails.
After the ride, we’ll gather at Villa Marie Winery, 6633 E. Main St. in Maryville. You can either bike to the winery or load up your bike at the park and drive to the winery. You may not bring food or drinks to the winery, but cheese and sausage trays and other appetizers are available. Ride Leader: Arlene Willmann, P 618.401.9513 and firstname.lastname@example.org
